Diamond

Overall Score
2.5

Overview

DIAMOND is an open‑source, high‑performance sequence aligner that accelerates protein and translated‑DNA searches by 100‑to‑10,000 × compared with BLAST. It supports rapid pairwise alignments, frameshift‑aware mapping for long reads, and clustering of tens of billions of proteins, all while running on modest desktop or laptop hardware. The tool outputs a variety of formats—including BLAST‑style pairwise, tabular, XML, and taxonomic classifications—making it easy to integrate into existing pipelines. Actively maintained by Dr. Benjamin J. Buchfink and the community, DIAMOND is freely available on GitHub and via popular package managers such as Conda.
