Overview

GnuPG (GNU Privacy Guard) is a free, open‑source implementation of the OpenPGP standard that lets you encrypt, sign, and verify data and communications. It provides a powerful command‑line interface together with a flexible key‑management system and optional support for S/MIME, SSH‑agent, and smart‑cards. Because it is released under the GNU GPL, you can freely use, modify, and redistribute it, and it integrates seamlessly with a wide range of front‑ends and libraries. The stable 2.x series also offers an SQLite‑backed key database daemon for better performance with large keyrings.
