Overview

Portable OpenSSH is a full‑featured implementation of the SSH v2 protocol, providing secure remote login, command execution, and file transfer through tools such as ssh, sshd, scp, and sftp. It is a portable version of OpenBSD’s OpenSSH that runs on most Unix‑like systems—including Linux, macOS, and Cygwin—by polyfilling missing OpenBSD APIs and adding sandboxing and native authentication support (e.g., PAM). The suite also includes utilities for key management (ssh-keygen, ssh-agent) and optional features like Kerberos, SELinux, and FIDO token authentication. With a straightforward autoconf‑based build process and extensive documentation via man pages, Portable OpenSSH offers a reliable, cross‑platform solution for encrypted communications.
